Emperor Louis Napoleon III transformed the medieval city of Paris, France, into a modern metropolis that resulted in countless social, political, economical, and cultural changes. Artists chose to portray the lives of everyday people in their new society. The birth of the Impressionist movement originated in France and was the result of a revolution in the history of art that helped to free subsequent artists from the traditional methods of the Salon. Claude Monet played a crucial role in the emergence of Impressionism. He tried to reproduce the colored light that reflected from the surface of an object exactly as he saw it. Monet painted dissolving forms and atmospheric conditions. Monet's of light rather than the solid forms of objects. A painting from each decade of Monet's career is analyzed to show how his style of painting slowly developed
