An example of an injective unilateral shift T is constructed for which the weak operator and weak* topologies on the weak* closed algebra generated by T and the identity are different, thereby showing that shifts do not necessarily have property ( (,1)). Also some results towards showing that operators in (INTERSECT) C(,00) have property ( (,1)) are obtained
