The problem examined in this research project was the impact of colorism on the behaviors and attitudes of African Americans toward African Americans. This study examined the attitudes and emotions among African Americans of varying ages as they related to individuals of their own race with similar and different skin tones whom they see daily This research studied colorism in relation to how it impacted African Americans of different age ranges. A comparison was drawn between how experiences with colorism impacted African American of different ages' perceptions of self and others and the effects those experiences had in the lives of the subjects. The researcher used a mixed methodology design which engaged African American participants of varying ages and generated both qualitative and quantitative analysis
